Stock Issues & Discontinuation

Since we do not outsource our printing, we are ordering new stock each and every day to keep up with our member's orders. Though 99.44% of our orders are shipped out without any issue, we do experience stock issues from time to time due to our dynamic and fast moving inventory. Items being out of stock or discontinued is a frustrating thing for all of us, and it is certainly not what we want! Since it does happen every now and then, we thought it was time we gave a detailed explanation about both why this happens, and what the procedure is when it does happens.

Why Do Items Get Discontinued?

Products can be discontinued for a couple of different reasons. Sometimes we have control over the discontinuation, and sometimes we don't. Here are the two main reasons a product will be discontinued.

Manufacturer Discontinues Item

This is when the company that produces an item, like American Apparel or Hanes, decides to stop making an item that we stock. Unfortunately when this happens we have no choice but to stop offering the item.

Item Isn't Being Sold or Bought

We only discontinue an item for this reason if there is an extremely low amount of the product being added to stores or bought by our members customers. This doesn't happen very often, but is necessary sometimes to add new products to our range. If this happens to an item you offer, you can always email us about re-adding it. We are happy to bring items back if enough people want them.

Short Notice

Sometimes items are discontinued and there's really nothing we can do about it. Since most of the companies we stock items from are large companies, we aren't always given advanced notice about discontinuations. With that being said, we do our best to keep our customers informed and on top of product additions and discontinuations.

Why Do Items Go Out of Stock?

There are also a few different reasons an item can be out of stock. We do try very hard to keep everything we need for the day on hand, but sometimes issues do arise.

Manufacturer Issues

Sometimes our supplier experiences stocking issues. This can happen with certain items, or just certain colors of an item. When this happens, the stocking issue trickles down to us. Sometimes manufacturers also experience production delays which makes it hard for us to keep a steady amount of their product in stock.

Surprise Demands

Sometimes there is a random surge in demand for a specific item that is impossible to predict. This occurrence is very rare, but has happened in the past. A misjudgement of stocking needs on our part can happen, but has only occurred if there is an unprecedented surprise demand for one specific item.

What Happens Next?

It is important to note that we do try to give our members as much notice as possible about stocking issues and product discontinuations, though it is not always possible. Trust us, we hate springing this stuff on you guys as much as you hate having it sprung on you!

So what happens? There are two scenarios:

We have advanced notice

Good news, bad news. The good: we have advanced notice something is being phased out, or that a company is having a long term stocking issue with a product. The bad: we cannot stock the item any more.

    1. Now that we have notice, we work on getting the news out to all of our members who have that item added to their store. We compile a list of all our member's emails who have the item listed in their shop.

  1. If possible, our goal is to get an email created and sent out 30 days before the item is totally unavailable. This allows our members time to find a suitable replacement for the item and update their stores accordingly.

So what happens if you don’t replace a discontinued or out of stock item in your shop? Nothing will happen. That can be a good or bad thing. More often than not if someone tries to order the item, we get notified and send you an email notifying you that the item is out of stock. If there is a suitable replacement, we will offer you some suggestions. However, there are situations where items become "stuck". What does this mean? It means that if we've removed an item from our website, and it's still in your shop, the order might not come through to us at all. So the moral of the story is .. if you receive an email about an item being discontinued or out of stock indefinitely, get it out of your store!

We don't have advanced notice

So, this is obviously the less desirable of the two scenarios. Sometimes we won't know an item is out of stock until someone orders it. Trust me, we get how inconvenient this is (for all involved), but it's just the nature of the apparel industry.

    1. We receive an order and place an expedited order for the product if it is not in stock. Sometimes the manufacturer does not have readily available stock of this item, and we only find out then and there.

  1. At this point we will email you about the stock issue ASAP. Again, if there are suitable alternatives to the item we will provide you with suggestions. You won't have to change it in your shop unless the item is going to be out of stock indefinitely.
